The healthcare legislation recently passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama contains a tax credit for small businesses. The small business healthcare tax credit is meant to help cover the cost of healthcare for small business workers. For qualifying businesses, the healthcare tax credit covers up to 35% of a small business’ healthcare premiums immediately and up to 50% beginning in 2014. Small businesses that qualify for the new healthcare tax credit are those that have less than 25 full-time equivalent workers, pay their employees less than $50,000 per year on average and off set at least 50% of the cost of healthcare coverage for their employees. Notably, non-profit small businesses are eligible for the tax credit as well. The Aidenbaum team understands the needs of small businesses and has experience advising small businesses on all matters, including tax credits.

If you would like to learn more about the healthcare tax credit for small business, please read the Small Business Administration’s fact sheet or contact the attorneys at Aidenbaum Schloff and Bloom PLLC.

President Obama recently released a fact sheet on his new Export Control Reform Initiative. After conducting a review of the entire U.S. export control system, the Administration has determined the export control system would benefit from a comprehensive overhaul. In particular, President Obama has suggested a new export control system that consists of a single control list, a single primary enforcement coordination agency, a single information technology system and a single licensing agency. According to President Obama’s fact sheet, the Administration will “engage with Congress to consult and seek its input on the proposed reforms.” Nonetheless, the reforms are to be implemented in three phrases, with the first phase involving measures that can be implemented without legislation. The Aidenbaum team has experience guiding clients through the complexities associated with export control compliance and can help prepare your business for the upcoming reforms.

To learn more about the proposed reforms, please read the President’s fact sheet or contact the Aidenbaum team.

On the surface leasing commercial real estate would appear to be a fairly straightforward and uncomplicated business transaction. The owner of a building simply agrees to let a tenant occupy the property in exchange for a certain amount of rent.

Unfortunately, as our society has become ever more complicated, landlords and tenants have found that many situations can arise, during the course of a lease, where a simple agreement to pay rent does not satisfactorily protect the interests of the parties. The Attorneys at Aidenbaum Schloff and Bloom PLLC are experts in managing commercial leasing agreements.
